As part of our commitment to growing and improving the Bike Train Initiative, we are thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the roles of Bike Train Captain and Assistant Captain. These roles are vital to the success of each bike train, fostering a stronger cycling culture in Nairobi while creating a lasting impact in our neighborhoods.

 

What Does a Bike Train Captain Do?

As a Bike Train Captain, you will:

  • Lead and manage your neighborhood’s bike train group.

  • Promote cycling as a safe, fun, and sustainable mode of transportation.

  • Organize and coordinate rides and activities to increase visibility and engage your community.

  • Act as a focal point for the City Bike Tours, mapping routes, identifying suitable locations, and supporting their execution.

  • Engage with local stakeholders to build stronger connections and raise cycling awareness in your neighborhood.

  • Assist in Critical Mass Nairobi activities, such as serving as the point person for community events and initiatives.

  • Support new riders, providing mentorship and guidance to help build their confidence and skills.

 

Qualifications

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Are proficient cyclists with a strong knowledge of their neighborhood’s roads and landmarks.

  • Possess excellent leadership and communication skills.

  • Exhibit strong teamwork and interpersonal abilities.

  • Are eager to learn and grow into a leadership role.

  • Bring a positive attitude and passion for cycling, road safety, and community development.

  • Are enthusiastic about supporting livable neighborhoods through sustainable mobility.

  1. This is a volunteer-based role with flexibility to assist on weekends and during events.

Are you passionate about cycling and ready to make a difference in your community? Critical Mass Nairobi is looking for Assistant Bike Train Captains to join our growing Bike Train Initiative and help us build a cycling-friendly Nairobi!

This role is vital in fostering a vibrant cycling culture and creating a lasting impact in neighborhoods across the city.

 

What Does an Assistant Bike Train Captain Do?

As an Assistant Bike Train Captain, you will:

  • Support Bike Train Captains in organizing and leading rides.

  • Help guide participants during rides, ensuring safety and comfort.

  • Collaborate with Captains to plan routes and manage logistics.

  • Assist new and first-time cyclists, providing mentorship and encouragement.

  • Share knowledge of local roads and routes to enhance the cycling experience.

  • Represent your neighborhood in the City Bike Tours and other Critical Mass Nairobi activities.
